By using the chart below you can determine the year the clock was first shipped from the IBM factory, most likely the one located in Endicott, New York. There are plenty of rotary types as well.Hope that helps. Most ITR serial numbers are a five- or six-digit number found stamped on the clocks punch mechanism, or on its case, or on a label inside the clock. Do a search with these terms " 100 ohm variable -100w -100watt -100k " Here's one of the linear type although it unnecessarily rated at 50 watts. It is convenient to have a variable and I wonder if you've looked on eBay. ![]() I reckon anything between 50 and 100 ohm would suit. However it measures as 150 ohm but only 1/3 is in circuit with a 12 volt supply when only the one dial is in circuit. Its about 5 inches long and wire-wound in the conventional way. My 1979 has a much improved resistor which is much better. The 1975 one had a variable resistor wound with curly resistance wire and (from memory as I've now soldthe clock) was about 3 inches long and had two sliders. It was horrible to adjust and I wouldn't have gone out of my way to replace it even if I could get one. Hi Mark.I can't help you with a genuine Synchronome variable but I can say that the resistors in the two Mk2's that I have experience of are different.
